Kokanee Springs Golf Resort
16082 Woolgar Rd.
Crawford Bay BC

Kokanee Springs Golf Course is not easy to get to – just one of many reasons why this place is special. Getting to the Kokanee Springs course will likely require boarding a BC ferry, driving through a mountain pass (or two), or at the very least, numerous stops beside the road to study your map to get your bearings. Once at the course, it won’t take long to figure out that your tedious navigational work has been time well spent. This Norman Woods course is best characterized by immense rolling greens, wide tree-lined fairways, and spacious tee areas positioned for panoramic views. In fact, the rule of thumb at Kokanee Springs seems to be “go big or go home.” Perhaps one of the reasons Kokanee is so popular with the city crowd is the spaciousness of the property. At Kokanee you can take a deep breath and relax as you catch a view of the Kokanee glacier, crack open a locally brewed lager (that would be “the beer out here”), and peg it up on one of the finest “hidden gems” in Canada.

Granite Pointe Golf Club
1133 Richards St.
Nelson, BC

The club is old! The vision of the golf club in Nelson dates back to 1919. Surprisingly, back in 1919 there were a group of men who felt that a good golf course was “absolutely essential in any town that has any pretension of being up to date” as quoted in the Nelson News. With splendid views of the Kokanee Glacier, Kootenay Lake, and the mountain city of Nelson, the Granite Pointe Golf Club is yet another gem in BC’s scenic Kootenay Rockies Region. The course, which underwent a complete overhaul and expansion to 18 holes by acclaimed architect Bill Newis in 1993, traverses through challenging terrain and features a number of risk-reward holes requiring precise shot-making. Be warned however, ‘precise shot-making’ can be hampered by the many magnificent vistas golfers are treated to while playing the course. The par-four 16th – which was chosen as one of the top 10 holes in BC – is a great example. Here golfers paint their tee shots against a backdrop that includes the crystal waters of Kootenay Lake, the historic buildings of Nelson, and the famed Kokanee Glacier!

Castlegar Golf Club
1602 Aaron Rd.
Castlegar, BC

Praised by Golf Digest as one of Canada’s best courses for overall value and golfing enjoyment, the Castlegar Golf Club is also known locally for its friendly atmosphere, which has helped make it a favourite venue for social events and company tournaments. Golf Digest rated Castlegar Golf Club a four star golf course. Castlegar’s 18 challenging holes are set on an attractive plateau above the Columbia River, where you’ll be treated to some truly spectacular panoramas of the surrounding mountains. But don’t lose yourself completely in the mountain vistas, for you’ll have to stay focused if you’re to give one of the province’s best layouts a run for its money. Here the challenge lies not only on Castlegar’s well designed fairways, but its well manicured, rolling greens, most of which possess distinctive slopes that can be tricky to read. Castlegar Golfing Club is a championship 18 hole British Columbia golf course offering private lessons, driving range, putting greens, rentals, carts, clubhouse and Pro Shop. With and excellent practice facility, the full service championship golf course is a “must play” for any Kootenay Rockies golf holiday.
